If there's one thing I've learned after 20-plus years of living and working in Hampton Roads, it's that this community knows how to celebrate. And every May, Downtown Norfolk proves that point in the best possible way.
What Is Bayou Bon Vivant?
Bayou Bon Vivant is a three-day Cajun music and food festival held on the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront at Town Point Park. Presented by Norfolk Festevents — the same folks behind so many of our favorite summer events — this festival brings the soul of Louisiana right here to our backyard. It's one of those events that just puts you in a good mood the moment you walk in.
What to Expect
Think live Cajun and zydeco bands that'll have you two-stepping whether you planned to or not. Think crawfish, jambalaya, beignets, and all the rich, bold flavors that Louisiana is famous for. The atmosphere at Town Point Park is hard to beat on its own, but add in that music and those aromas drifting off the waterfront and you've got something genuinely special. It's a full cultural experience — not just a festival, but a celebration.
The food alone is worth the trip.
Authentic Louisiana-style cuisine at a Norfolk waterfront festival? Yes, please. Whether you're a Cajun food veteran or you're trying your first bowl of étouffée, there's something here for everyone at the table.

Why It Matters to Our Community
I always tell people who are considering a move to Hampton Roads that one of the things that makes this area so special is the way the community shows up for each other — at festivals like this, on the waterfront, shoulder to shoulder with neighbors. Events like Bayou Bon Vivant are a big part of why people don't just live here, they put down roots here.
Mark your calendars, grab your friends and family, and head down to Town Point Park. I promise you won't regret it — and if you see me there, come say hello. I'll probably be the guy trying to figure out how to fit a second plate of jambalaya into my afternoon.
