July is one of my favorite months in Hampton Roads. The energy is up, people are out, and there's genuinely no shortage of things to do — whether you're a longtime local or just getting settled in the area. Here's what I'd put on the radar this month.
Festivals & Big Events
• **Hampton 4th of July Celebration — July 4, Downtown Hampton Waterfront (Settler's Landing):** This is one of the biggest Independence Day celebrations in all of Hampton Roads, and it's completely free. This year's show features fireworks alongside a 400-drone light show over the water — honestly, that alone is worth showing up early for. Bring the family and find a good spot along the waterfront.
• **Norfolk Latino Music & Food Fest — July 18, Town Point Park, Norfolk:** Part of Norfolk Festevents' 2026 summer lineup, this one-day celebration brings live salsa music, dancing, and traditional food to the Norfolk waterfront. It's a vibrant, community-centered event with a great atmosphere for all ages.
• **NE-YO & AKON: Nights Like This Tour 2026 — July 18, Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater, Virginia Beach:** If you're an R&B fan, this is the big one this month. Two legends, one outdoor stage — it's going to be a night. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster and SeatGeek, so grab them before they're gone.
• **Virginia Symphony Orchestra Concert in the Park — July 19, Town Point Park, Norfolk:** This free outdoor VSO concert is a beloved summer tradition along the Norfolk waterfront. Bring a blanket, bring some snacks, and enjoy an evening under the stars with world-class music — it doesn't get much better than that.
• **Tattoo Party Hampton — July 2026, Hampton Roads Convention Center, Hampton:** This multi-day convention is billed as one of the most exciting tattoo festivals of 2026, with a specific focus on celebrating Black tattoo culture and artistry. It's among the first events of its kind in the Hampton Roads area and worth checking out whether you're getting ink or just appreciating the craft.
• **Country for Kids Concert 2026 — July 2026, Hampton Roads Convention Center, Hampton:** Now in its 26th year, this country music concert is one of those events that just keeps showing up because it keeps delivering. All net proceeds support the Center for Child & Family Services and the programs they run for our community — great music for a great cause.
• **MINKA – Philly Based Funk Band — July 11, Newport News (venue TBD):** MINKA rolls into Newport News for a live funk and soul show kicking off at 8 PM. Check Eventbrite for updated venue info and tickets.
Family & Community
• **3rd Annual Surviving Through Mental Health — July 9, 5–9 PM, Attucks Theatre, Norfolk:** Hosted by the Norfolk Community Services Board and Project ORF in honor of Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, this free evening event is centered on community, healing, and connection. It's the kind of gathering that reminds you why Hampton Roads feels like home.
• **Pink Pilates on the Beach — July 26, Virginia Beach Oceanfront:** An outdoor pilates class on the beach, open to all fitness levels. If you want a workout with a view, this is it.
• **Hampton Gun Show — July 2026, Hampton Roads Convention Center, Hampton:** A recurring regional show for collectors, enthusiasts, and buyers. Saturday admission is available at the door.
Farmers Markets (Weekly)
• **Buckroe Beach Farmers Market — Every Saturday, 9 AM–1 PM, Buckroe Beach, Hampton:** Fresh produce, baked goods, handmade crafts — all with a waterfront backdrop. One of my favorite Saturday morning spots in the region.
• **Hampton Blvd Farmers Market — Every Wednesday, 3–7 PM, Hampton Boulevard, Norfolk:** A solid neighborhood market running through the fall. Good for fresh local produce and a mid-week community vibe. Note: closed July 4.
• **Greenleaf Marketplace Farmers Market — Select dates in July (including July 1), 4:30–8:30 PM, Greenleaf Marketplace, Whittier Uptown area:** Hosted by the Whittier Uptown Association, this community market features local vendors and seasonal produce in an uptown neighborhood setting.
